In 1974, Dennis and Ann Ratner were both Stylists with a vision and a passion for their trade. Over dinner one night, the partners discussed the idea of a convenient, walk-in salon for the whole family with services as affordable as the cocktail on the napkin. They were on to something big. Little did they know, as they eagerly sketched their aspirations, they were about to revolutionize the salon industry!

With a mere $5,000 and immeasurable devotion, the dynamic duo brought their dream to life. The first Hair Cuttery® opened its doors in West Springfield, VA in 1974. The years that followed proved to be ones of hard work and success, incorporated with a lot of FUN.

Today, Hair Cuttery has nearly 1,000 company owned salons. The original Ratner Companies brand, Hair Cuttery is the largest division of our continually growing company and is still lead by Dennis Ratner. Though the actual cocktail napkin is long gone, the original core principles our founders set forth remain strongly embedded in our culture. We are a company built on dreams and talent, where it truly is all about the people.
